Some of my new studio moms seem to struggle finding time for themselves. With all the demands of a new baby, this is not surprising! It is important, however, to care for yourself so that baby gets your best.
Here are a few self-care tips for you.
- Monitor your sleep – A tired you is often a cranky you! Work to coordinate your sleep schedule with that of your baby’s. Some moms nap throughout the day while baby naps, others go to bed in the early evening with baby and lay back down after each of baby’s feedings until mid-morning. Decide what works for you, but get enough rest.
- Cultivate a support system – Having other new moms to talk to, share stories with, and ask advice of can lighten the load of motherhood. These may be moms from your neighborhood, church, or even birth class.
- Schedule time out of the house – It may be difficult to get out the house the first few weeks after your baby is born, but try to do so after the first month. Having coffee with a friend, doing a little shopping, or just going for a drive or short walk can give you a little bit of me time.
- Arrange a date night – This may seem close to impossible, but scheduling just an hour or two with your man can do wonders for both of you. With a family member or friend watching baby, a walk, movie, dinner, or whatever the two of you enjoy is treasured time.
What other self-care tips do you have for new moms? Please, share.
