There is still time for a quick get-away before summer is officially over! Traveling while pregnant can be uncomfortable and tiring at times. You may want to pack a few additional items to make for an easier flight.
Here are a few packing tips.
- A comfy pillow – You choose what pillow to pack – one for lumbar support if having lower back pain, one for your neck if planning on sleeping, or one for any other part of your body that needs support.
- Heartburn medicine – Acid reflux is a common complaint of pregnant women, which can be exasperated by flying – airport food, stress, tiredness.
- Anti-nausea medicine – Pregnant women are prone to motion sickness, especially if they experienced morning sickness. Having medicine with you will make for a more enjoyable flight.
- Comfortable flight shoes – Flat shoes can be slipped on and off at the security gate and are comfy for walking through the airport and during the flight. It is not uncommon for your feet to swell during the flight, especially if you are in mid- or late-pregnancy. Tossing a pair of flip-flops, or stretchy weather-appropriate shoes, into your carry-on bag will allow you to deplane comfortably.
- Shawl – Some pregnant women go from being hot one minute to cold the next. Dressing in layers and having a shawl, which can double as a blanket, allows you to respond to your body’s temperature shifts.
- Snacks and water – Cravings and hunger may not be addressed by the free pretzels provided by some airlines. Carrying snacks and water (purchase after going through security or bring an empty water bottle and fill it after going through security) will address in-flight hunger and hydration issues.
