Welcome back to Talking Tails!
We are certainly proud to be Americans and love a good party. The July 4 th fireworks, however, are just too much for us. We barely survived…how about you?
We have a whole regiment to try and get us through the night of fireworks. We wear our thunder shirts, our beds are sprayed with lavender oils, and Champ even takes anxiety medicine. The TV is put on at a little bit higher volume than normal…and we try and get through the evening.
We decided to “dig into” the reason that fireworks are used to celebrate the Fourth of July. It all dates back to John Adams. Even before the Declaration of Independence was signed, he wrote a letter to his wife saying that America’s freedom should be celebrated with “illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from Time forward forever more.” The first July 4th fireworks were set off in 1777 in Pennsylvania and Boston. This tradition was established at that time and continues through today.
We should be good now until New Year’s Eve, when we must deal with fireworks once again!
Talk to you soon!
Buster and Joey
