Welcome back to Talking Tails!
Big news to share…Mom and Dad have brought home a human baby girl. Still not sure how I feel about this new addition. Seems as though my normally predictable routine may be altered.
Mom is being very good and has been slowly introducing me to the idea of having a human sister over the past few months. Now that baby is here, Mom sent one of her baby blankets home to me from the hospital. This is helping me to recognize her smell, so it will not be a shock to me when she comes home. I will simply perform a friendly reminder sniff of baby rather than a full sniff-down!
Upon their return from the hospital, my Mom and Dad came into the house to greet me. I had missed them so much! Dad carried the baby, so Mom could give me hugs. Once I welcomed both of them back home, I was allowed to sniff the baby. Since it was a new experience for me, I did have my leash on, as was recommended by our veterinarian. It took me a few tries and several treats, but I can now lay quietly while the baby is being fed and rocked.
For those of you who are further down the road than I am with welcoming a new baby, you may have noticed that baby gates have been put up in the house. Often, the baby’s room is off-limits to us. Perhaps, your toys have increased – this is to make sure you chew on your toys and not the baby’s! You may have also noticed that your food and water bowls are relocated. When baby is mobile, our kibble can be a choking hazard and the water bowl could pose a drowning risk.
Hopefully, I will be more adjusted to having a baby in the house the next time I am in touch.
Talk to you soon!
Joey
