Welcome back to Talking Tails!
Do you dream? We do! From Joey chasing bunnies to Buster on emergency patrol, we experience our everyday activities in our dreams.
Researchers have discovered that dogs have similar sleep patterns and brain wave activity as humans. We experience REM sleep, the stage in which dreaming occurs. Our mom has seen our legs move as though we are running, heard us whine in excitement or sleepily woof, and breathe rapidly as though we are working hard – all in our sleep.
Sleep researchers indicate that small dogs dream more frequently than larger breeds, however, their dreams are of a shorter duration. So we both have many short dreams! How about you?
Just like humans, we can have nightmares. It is best to “let sleeping dogs lie” in these circumstances! When you wake up from a nightmare, it may take you a moment to remember where you are. The same is true for us, so we might be a bit aggressive if you wake us while we are having a nightmare. Just wait for us to wake up on our own and then be there to comfort us, please!
Sweet dreams!
Talk to you soon!
Buster and Joey
