Welcome back to Talking Tails!
With the holidays right around the corner, Buster, aka Mr. Safety, is on full alert. Writing from our personal experiences and from stories our furry friends have shared with us, we bring you the following tips to keep you safe during the holidays.
We really don’t pay much attention to the Christmas tree, but apparently some of our friends have been drawn to the shiny ornaments. They realized a little too late that ornaments are not good snacks. A few other dogs have pulled the tree down, but fortunately they were not hit by it. At all costs, avoid the tinsel. We have seen tinsel-laden poop, however, we have heard that sometimes too much tinsel lands a dog in the emergency room. So, our advice is to admire the tree, but keep your distance!
Our family has an artificial tree, so we are not exposed to the water sitting at the base of the tree stand. Thank goodness because Buster can’t help himself and drinks out of puddles, koi ponds, and the like. The water residing in the bottom of the stand is a great breeding area for bacteria. Drinking this water can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and a very upset stomach.
Holly and mistletoe are no-nos. We have a friend who snacked on mistletoe and spent the remainder of the day at the vet, followed by a few sick days at home. We don’t want any part of that!
Enjoy the holidays and keep safe.
Talk to you soon!
Buster and Joey
