Welcome back to Talking Tails!
The holidays are quickly approaching! I can’t wait! I get to see family members who live out-of-state and receive more treats than normal.
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on what we are thankful for and to show gratitude. I know that all my furry friends are especially thankful for their humans. They take such good care of us!
I think that our humans are also grateful for us. We bring so much into their lives. If the last year has taught us anything, we should appreciate the little things. As pets, we can so easily provide this to our humans.
We remind our humans to live in the moment. My grandma always says that playing with me reminds her of the pleasure of enjoying the little things and helps to lift her spirits. She forgets about whatever is stressing her and just focuses on playing with me. It is great for both of us! Which brings me to my second point. We remind our humans of the pleasure of playing. Either playing with us or playing in their own way (e.g., reading, working in the yard, taking a walk, exercising) is a good way for them to take care of themselves and to keep their life balanced.
I have noticed that at my house we have started taking more naps. I don’t now if it is/was the pandemic and associated stress or more work demands, but I often find that when I wake up from my nap, others are also sleeping! Mom and I have even had some nights where we go to bed a little bit earlier than normal. My furry friends and I instinctively know that sleep is restorative. Our humans should follow our example, as this is another way of taking care of yourself.
I speak for all my furry friends, in hoping that our humans are thankful for these simple lessons.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Talk to you soon!
Joey
