Welcome back to Talking Tails!
Have you heard of love languages? Supposedly, humans have preferred ways (love languages) of showing their significant partner they are important, respected, and loved. Not surprisingly, dogs also have a preference for how we want to be loved.
I suggest you have your human “read over your shoulder,” as you explore the various love languages.
- Words of Affirmation – Give me verbal praise – tell me that I am a good boy/girl. You know this is your love language if you look at your human, wag your tail, and get energized when you are praised. For most of us, this is not our love language.
- Acts of Service – Give me a job – let’s play ball or frisbee, take a walk/run, or have a play date. Enjoying physical activity is a sign of this being your love language.
- Gifts – Give me a toy or a treat – now we are talking! For those of us who get super excited with gifts, this is our love language. For me, my excitement at the arrival of my Bark Box definitely signifies this is my love language.
- Quality Time – Give me your attention – be in the moment. Talk to me, look at me, teach me something new, or try something different. Even if this is not your dominant love language, we all love attention.
- Physical Touch – Give me some petting – rub my head, please! If snuggling is what makes your day, then this is your love language.
Have you found your love language? Hope your human is on the same page and loves you as you prefer!
Talk to you soon!
Joey
