St. Patrick’s Day is my day! I am Irish on my Mom’s side, having inherited several Irish physical features, and even some personality characteristics. My great great grandparents emigrated to America from Ireland, so we always celebrate this day in honor of our heritage.
Even if you are not Irish, it is still fun to get caught up in the festivities of the day.
- Growing up, we colored lots of shamrocks and displayed them around the house. A shamrock stencil gives your toddler lines to “color in” and helps them create “works of art.” As my sisters and I got older, we even used glitter on our shamrocks, but would not recommend that for your toddler, unless you want to find glitter in your house for several months!
- Baking and decorating cookies was an annual St. Patrick’s Day event at our house. We used our shamrock and leprechaun cookie cutters, frosting, and colored sprinkles to have just the best time. Your toddler can have lots of fun decorating cookies!
- Much to my Mom’s dismay, she would make green playdough for us to mold into lots of different shapes. This is great fun and helps to stimulate your toddler’s creativity.
- We always were dressed in green…from head to toe. Mom would even stencil a green shamrock on our cheek! Having your toddler pick out a green piece of clothing helps in learning and recognizing different colors.
- To wrap up the day, we helped Mom make our traditional dinner of corned beef and cabbage. Toddlers can help with St Patrick’s Day dinner fixings, even if you choose to serve a less traditional dinner.
